Make-A-Wish began in 1980, when the Arizona Department of Public Safety granted the wish of a boy suffering from Leukemia. One-on-one reading not only increases a child's reading proficiency, but it often improves his or her interest in other areas as well. Read to a Child is a once-a-week lunchtime reading program dedicated to bridging the literacy gap that exists throughout the country.
